My trip to the MOMA

Time is Flying…
Tonight is my last night in the city until March 7th. Tomorrow I’ll be heading to St. Catherines Island for the second time. Should be another fun three weeks; lots of hard work, but a ton of fun.
This last week I took my first trip to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and was delightfully surprised. I had no idea they housed Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night” and so many Picasso’s, Warhol’s, Monet’s, and Matisse’s.
I also went to dinner at Katz Deli. Yup, that’s the deli from When Harry Met Sally. I had my first pastrami on rye, it was delicious. The atmosphere isn’t as crazy as everyone makes it out to be, but then again it was 7:30 on a Wednesday night. They were kind of pricey, but the food was good and the portions are giant. I also went to this awesome bakery around the corner from Katz’s and had the most amazing pudding, ever.
Other than that, I’ve just been walking around a bit. I’ve got some photos to share. I’ll see if I can squeeze in an up date while on the island and DEFINITELY not drop my camera off the dock this time.

Getting Back Into City Life
I wrote my last post on the night of a big snow storm. I met my old roommate and her friend from Sweden that night at a place called Alice’s Tea Cup. It was really fun, they have a huge selection of teas and it’s just a fun atmosphere. The conversation was really interesting, all of us talking about our respective countries. I didn’t have any problems with the weather while I was out, but I knew we were expecting more snow.
When I got up that Thursday everything was covered in snow, the buses weren’t running, and all the airports were closed. I walked to work and there was only one other intern that could make it in and one staff member. It was a nice quiet day in the lab and we even got a 30 minute break to check out the Brain exhibit!
Last Sunday I went to brunch with a few other interns and then we walked over to the museum to check out the imax movie on dinosaurs of the sea.
I went back to the Met last week and happened to stumble upon an organ recital in the hall of musical instruments. I walked through the American galleries and the visual storage before heading back home.
Tomorrow a few interns are going to brunch again and this will be my last week in the city before heading to the island!

I’m Baaaaaack….
Well, I got back to NY on the 15th of January and stayed with my friend and fellow intern at her place in Gramercy for a few days until I could move in on the 18th. Now I’m sharing a two bedroom in the Upper Westside. So far, things have been going well.
I started back at the museum on Thursday and experienced my first NYC snow on Friday. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy snow…but when it snows in the city it is pretty gross. The streets and sidewalks are already fairly grimy, then add some cold, wet, melting snow. It just makes everything less pleasant. When the snow isn’t falling and the piles are just resting on the sides of the sidewalk and Central Park is painted white, then it’s pretty. I happened to have a perfect seat on the plane and got to see snow covered Manhattan from above. It was awesome, too bad I didn’t have my camera handy.
Other than walk around and take snowy pictures, I haven’t done much. A few if the interns were going to go to the MOMA (museum of modern art) but of course it is closed on Tuesdays. Instead three of us went to Park Slope, Brooklyn to this restaurant that was featured on Food Network, ChipShop. It was authentic British food and they will fry anything. You bring something in, and the will fry it for you… I had fish and chips, earl grey tea, and fried reese peanut butter cups. Healthy, I know.
Today and tomorrow we’re expecting loads of snow, and so far it’s delivered. It hasn’t stopped or slowed down all day. The lab gave us a number to call in case of bad weather, they might close the museum. I’ve got to brave a bit of the snow today to run some errands and I was supposed to have dinner plans with my old roommate. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
I’ll be posting more recent pictures asap, I just thought I give a quick update now before I brave this snow…

The first real snow…. there were flurries last week, but that doesn’t count!
One of my roommate’s friends changed their facebook status to saying something about it snowing in SOHO, so we looked out the window. Normally when this happens, there’s nothing… but this time there was snow on the ground! So we threw on some layers and made our way downstairs~
